Metta School students participated in a series of activities for this year’s Kindness Movement Week (20 April to 23 April), and for Green and Earth Day (22 April).
Other than taking note of students’ kind gestures in school, we also had wonderful parents who helped to capture photos and videos of students performing kind acts at home. These photos and videos were compiled into a video montage that was shared with the whole school. Students were glad to see their kindness efforts being recognised by everyone else. During CCE lessons, teachers also went through how students can be kind to animals. Students had the opportunity to express their learning by designing a simple poster and/or writing down their thoughts, which were then put up on walls around the school.
For Green and Earth Day, students were asked to collect recyclables and bring it to school. Students had the opportunity to sort out the various recyclables into different materials – paper, plastic, and metal in their respective classrooms. After about three weeks of collection, classes were tasked to design and create an item out of the recyclables. The recycling project allowed the students to use their creativity and learn about repurposing these materials instead of throwing them away.
A prize-giving presentation was conducted on ZOOM on 23 April. Here are the winning classes and their final creation for the recycling project, congratulations to them!
We hope that the students had a meaningful experience and will continue to be kind to people, animals and the environment.
