ComChest – Mediacorp Charity TV Show On 27 July 2014

It all started with a meeting called by NCSS to various VWOs from Katong School, SYNC Hougang Centre, SIA-MINDS Employment Centre, Metta School and ComChest staff at its HQ on 20th March 2014. Soon after the meeting, a short video of each ensemble from these schools and centre were presented and a big combined Orchestra was formed. It comprised of Chinese Drum Percussion, Angklung & Ukulele from Metta School, Guzheng from Katong School and Drum Chaos & Stomp Warriors from Student Care Centre and Metta School respectively.

The famous music conductor was Dr. Robert Casteel and he created a musical composition, consisting of various instruments performed by the VWOs. The theme of the show was “Love for All and All for Love”.

Each individual group started to practice during their Performance Arts day and some even practiced during June School Holidays. The students were determined and resilient to make it a success. There were three combined practices at Metta School Sport Hall, a full dress rehearsal on the eve and the actual live performance on 27th July 2014 at Sentosa World Resort. It was amazing to see those Malay students who were tired because of Ramadan Fasting Month and yet they were full of cheer and spirit de Corp to perform just as good as their peers. The song was Burong Kakak Tua which came with a finale of Chan Mali Chan. Even though the actual live performance only lasted 10 min or so but numerous hours of repeated practices by the students made it a worthwhile caused for aiding the under-privileged in our society.

The students were even motivated when the actors and actress came to talk and took photographs with them during practices and at the back of the stage. We would like to thank all instructors, teachers and co-teachers who did logistic and make-up behind the scene for the students in order to make it a magnificent difference in their lives and the lives of others as well. Well done to all participants!
