The school commemorated Green and Earth day on Friday, 22nd of April. Activities were conducted to help raise the awareness of the need to practice the 3Rs in order to save Mother Earth.
A week before the event, students were informed that there would be collection of newspaper for recycling purpose on the actual day. The rag and bone man came to our school and we managed to get $6 from all the newspaper collection. The winning classes for the newspaper collections were from A8, C3-2 and V1-1. It is hoped that more classes will participate in this project next year.
There was a power point presentation by Mr Lim on global warming, climate change and the 3 Rs. This was followed by a quiz to reinforce the students’ understanding of the information that had been presented. Winners were given fruits as prizes.
After the quiz was the long awaited fashion show. ‘Models’ from the various classes paraded themselves excitedly in their costumes which they had designed and created from recycled materials such as egg cartoons, paper boxes, garbage bags, plastic cups and towels. Narrators from each class gave a verbal description of how the respective costume was created. Everyone enjoyed watching the fashion parade.
Teachers in the Green and Earth day committee had also done their part in recycling by wrapping the prizes with newspapers and putting them in recycled plastic and paper shopping bags.
The winning classes for the fashion show were A9-1, C3-2 and V1-1.
The celebration ended with the students singing the song entitled “Save my world”.
