On 13th August 2016, Metta School organised a Parenting Skill workshop: “Keep Calm and Let’s Talk- How to talk so teens will listen”. A total of 15 parents attended this workshop. We were fortunate to have Dr Wu Mi Yin from Focus on Family Singapore Ltd as our speaker for this workshop.
Dr Wu touched on topics such as how parents show respect to their children, the challenges faced by teenagers, lingos used by teenagers and the KEYS to their heart.
As shared by Dr Wu, the keys to a teenager’s heart are:
Dr Wu kept the workshop interesting and engaging through different activities such as role play of teenager sharing problems they faced with their parents. Through role play, it gave parents an opportunity to think from a teenager’s point of view and the challenges they faced, in the hope of helping parents to understand their children better.
One of the key messages from Dr Wu is that there is no “one size fit all” type of solution as every teenager is special and unique in their own way.
