Upon arrival in Penang, five coaches took us for a quick lunch in a Chinese Muslim restaurant and immediately afterward to Georgetown. The tour guides untiringly briefed us the history of this UNESCO World Heritage Site and showed us its Chinese shop houses, British-era colonial buildings, and other eclectic architectures. We had an unforgettable walk tour in Pinang Peranakan Mansion at Church Street where the popular MediaCorp TV drama series “The Little Nonya” was filmed. Although it was a short day tour, we still managed to have a drive around beautiful Georgetown and take a glance at Fort Cornwallis, Queen Victoria Clock Tower, St George’s Church and Church of the Assumption.
Before heading back to Penang International Airport, our last stop in town was to get goodies such as Tau Sar Pneah, chocolates and white coffee for family members back home in Singapore. It was indeed a wonderful flying trip to Penang for our students and some of them couldn’t wait to write down their self-reflections about it while on the way back to Singapore. We are truly grateful to Tigerair and NTUC for sponsoring and organizing the trip.
