Speech–Language Therapy
To assist students in achieving their educational outcomes, the speech therapist uses specialized knowledge of:
- Speech
- Language
- Social communication
- Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)
- Voice
- Fluency
- Eating and swallowing
The speech therapist in the school:
- Identifies and assesses students with communication difficulties who require school-based speech therapy intervention
- Provides intervention to enhance students’ communication skills necessary for participation in the curriculum
- Assists the education team to adjust communication demands of the curriculum to ensure student participation and achievement of educational goals
- Consults with and provides resources to school staff, caregivers and the school community
