From 24 – 25 August 2017, the V1s have the privilege of attending a training camp organised by the National Civil Defence Cadet Corps.
The students reported to the Home Team Academy, located at Old Choa Chu Kang Road on the first day; and to a fire station at Chua Chu Kang on the second day.
Students took part in many activities such as Foot Drill, learning to put out a small fire, fire station tour, and learn life-saving skills.
“We had to pull the pin, aim the nozzle towards the base of the fire and squeeze the handle to release the extinguishing agent until the fire is put out.” Hariz, V1-2
The students are very excited during the Fire Station Tour because it is a rare opportunity for to look at the fire trucks and equipment close-up. The students also get a chance to sit inside an ambulance.
“I learnt how to use the AED machine.” Dowen V1-2
“I learnt how to stop bleeding and more about bandaging.” Kay Kit V1-1
Some reflections from the students:
“I learnt how to take care and communicate with my buddy. I helped to take care of my buddy Sabrina when she had a headache.” Syazana V1-2
“My camp buddy was Dominic Poh from V1-2. Previously, we were pretty distant. As the camp progressed, we discovered that we both like to joke around and comment about whatever is happening in camp. Through this, I have become more confident in socializing with others. Overall, I am grateful to be able to learn these lessons. The experiences of this camp has given me many happy and wonderful memories. I am proud to be able to participate in this NCDCC camp.” Brendon V1-3
