On 19th June 2019, 3 staff and 9 student leaders from Metta School went on a 4D3N leadership trip together with 9 staff and 10 students from Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore (CPAS). The purpose of this trip is for the student leaders to develop confidence by interacting and going beyond their comfort zone to buddy CPAS students. The 9 student leaders were selected for this trip as they had demonstrated the school values (Respect, Resilience, Responsibility, Openness, Compassion, Knowledge).
During this trip, each student leader is paired with one student from CPAS. They learnt to look after their buddies, and they had fun together in experiencing outdoor adventure activities such as abseiling, flying fox and water rafting. At the end of each day, student leaders gathered together to share and reflect.
Among our student leaders, Dowen Tan and Syikh Hariz have exceeded the teachers’ expectations. Both of them are the Executive Committee (EXCO) of the Prefectorial Board. Dowen Tan was paired with 2 CPAS students, he displayed compassion and helped his buddies whenever they are in need. Syikh Hariz is paired with a student who is wheelchair enabled. He took the initiatives to interact with his buddy.Â

By the end of the trip, friendships were built, and the student leaders learned, experienced and took away somethings which they can bring back to improve themselves and the school.
