Educational Model

Our programme focuses on holistic learning to build not only fitness and sporting ability, but also develop character.

Our programme focuses on students’ holistic learning in Physical Fitness, Work Fitness, Outdoor Education and Sports, as well as Games. Through these experiences, students not only build fitness and sporting ability but also develop character.

For the junior students (7 to 12 years old), the emphasis is on development of Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS). Students are taught physical literacy skills through targeted body movements, so that they can participate actively in games, sports, and recreational activities. A.PE lessons for senior students (aged 13 and above) revolve around fitness-building and instilling work-readiness attributes such as stamina, strength, resilience and teamwork.

We believe in providing our students with opportunities to realize their potential in different domains. Through our sports / games module and co-curricular activities, sports talents will be identified and placed under more intensive training. To support their development, students will also be exposed to more inter-school and national competitions, so that they can be inspired to push the limits.

Our goal is that our students will continue to lead a healthy lifestyle post-graduation. One approach is to support students to access community sports and recreation facilities confidently and safely. 12-year-olds go through a community-transition programme to learn to use public swimming pool, while 17-year-olds are equipped with skills to use public gyms.

Another approach is through education. All students are taught how to make nutritional choices in order to achieve healthy Body Mass Index (BMI). Additionally, students learn to set goals and use relevant applications to monitor their progress. For students who require more intensive support, we further collaborate with families to individualize their fitness programmes. This initiative is named “Project Starfish” and earned Metta School the MOE-NCSS Innovation Award in 2020. In this school-to-home partnership, a home- based PE curriculum manageable for both child and parents is developed, together with a diet plan, so that weight management can be tackled more holistically.
