Haziq enrolled in Metta School in 2016 at the age of 17. During his four years at Metta School, he first pursued ISC in Housekeeping Operations (Accommodation) and later advanced to ISC in Hospitality Services. Despite facing social-emotional challenges, Haziq persevered and completed his training with an impressive Grade-Point-Average (GPA), earning a Certificate of Merit from ITE.

A determined young man with clear goals, Haziq applied to study for a Nitec in Logistic Services at ITE. The next two years were challenging as he had to adapt to a very different environment and learn many new skills. Driven and fearless in the face of challenges, Haziq achieved satisfactory results, enabling him to progress to a Work-Study Diploma with Dnata Singapore Pte Ltd.

Balancing both studies and work is no easy feat, especially when it involves shift work. His job responsibilities include operating a forklift to load/unload cargo and conducting detailed documentation checks to complete acceptance. Haziq saw many of his peers drop out along the way, but he not only stayed the course, he also met a beautiful girl, got married, and is now a proud father of two.

With persistence, discipline, and hard work, dreams can come true. Haziq is indeed a role model for all his juniors at Metta School!

  • Currently pursuing Nitec in Pastry and Baking in ITE.

Jerica enrolled into Metta School in 2014 at age 12.  From a shy little girl, she blossomed into a confident young lady who was the perfect role model for her juniors.  An all-rounder, Jerica excelled not only in her academics and vocational training, but was also outstanding in sports.  Twice a week, she would lead the morning mass exercise as our Fitness Leader. Jerica joined Badminton as her Co-curricular Activity and developed a strong passion for the game.  She trained rigorously and won the Gold medal in the 2022 Special Youth Olympics.  This year, she even represented Singapore at the Special Olympics World Game (Berlin).

Jerica demonstrates maturity beyond her years.  Since she was 16 years old, she took the initiative to work part-time in order to supplement her family income.  She is truly deserving of the Lee Kuan Yew Exemplary Student Award and the National Youth Achievement Award (Silver) which she received in 2020 and 2022 respectively.

Currently, Jerica is coping well with her studies in ITE and aims to continue to pursue Higher Nitec or Work-Study Diploma in 2025.

  • Graduated 2019 from ISC in Hospitality Services
  • Currently working full-time as Customer Service Assistant in Secret Recipe

Nabilah enrolled into Metta School in 2010 at aged 11.  A bubbly and mild-mannered young lady, Nabilah was the epitome of the school value, “Openness”.  She was an excellent team player who worked well with all her peers, be it in the classroom or during Scouts activities.   When there was a conflict, Nabilah was able to face the problem head-on, mediate between her team-mates and find win-win solutions.

Nabilah was placed in Secret Recipe for her final year on-the-job training (OJT).  She was open to feedback, learned from her mistakes and made corrections promptly.  The company was impressed with her performance and offered her employment after her graduation in 2019.  Nabil qualified for ITE but decided to start employment instead and has been working in the same restaurant ever since.  Post-covid, Nabilah joined the company full-time in May 2021.  Mr Kuan Phang Thien, Kitchen Operation Manager at Secret Recipe (Plaza Singapura), has this to say of Nabilah, “She is a valuable member of our team and having her on the team makes a huge difference.  We are so thankful to have her on board Secret Recipe.”

When asked what challenges she faced at work, Nabilah was all smiles, saying, “Sometimes, I get scolded”.  She added that she is not fazed by these but instead sees them as opportunities to learn.  She would ask her supervisor how she can improve and essentially just focus on doing things better.  With such positive attitude, it is no wonder Nabilah has fulfilled her goals of not only being independent but also being able to contribute financially to support her grandmother.

  • Graduated 2022 from VNC (previously known as Employment Pathway Programme, EPP)
  • Currently in SG Enable’s School-to-Work Programme

Demetriet enrolled into Metta School in 2015. He is an out-going person who enjoys being engaged in different activities.  In school, he participated in many Performing and Visual Arts (PA) groups, such as Chinese Orchestra, Angklung, Mosaic Art and Digital Art. Additionally, Demetriet was a long-time member of Scouts and contributed actively during their annual Job Week.

Always wearing a smile, Demetriet leaves a positive first impression with everyone he meets. The supervisors whom he worked with when he was in Metta would praise him for having initiative and being compliant.  He received the “Best in Job Trial” award in 2021.

Demetriet has a strong desire to be independent and was often seen applying what he had learnt in the classroom into his daily living. One such skill was reporting of his locations to his parents when he went out on his own during the weekends.

For his School-to-Work programme with SG Enable, Demetriet was placed at Holiday Inn Singapore Litte India.  He works part-time as a Public Area Attendant, tasked mainly to clean corridors, lift lobbies and the gymnasium.  Demetriet enjoys his work and is handling the demands very well.  We are optimistic that he will sustain employment at the end of his training.
